The State Commissioner of Girl Guides Queensland

State Commissioner Kathryn Pearson.

In Kathryn’s Own Words:

My family’s arrival in Australia in 2014, saw my daughter and I both welcomed into Mudgeeraba Senior Guides on the Gold Coast, with open arms. Following three years of Rainbows in the UK, I now watched as my daughter continued to grow in confidence, making new friendships and setting herself new challenges. After a year as a parent helper, I was thrilled to make my promise and start my own Guiding journey as a Leader. The significance of the promise ceremony is not lost on me, to say your promise and choose to live by the Guide law. It was a natural fit, I believe I have lived by the Guide law my whole life even though I was not lucky enough to be a Guide in my youth. I love the outdoors lifestyle the Gold Coast allows my family and I to enjoy. Hiking and travelling are my favourite activities followed closely by reading and sewing.

My family values meant I have always known that in order to live in a successful community, you need to actively contribute to achieving that success. I relish the opportunities Guiding gives me to serve my community and the wider community beyond. The chance to take on this role only amplifies that. I am so proud to accept this role and am committed to giving it my very best.

The safe environment Guiding provides to our girls and young women, allows them to develop into self-respecting, confident community members. The Australian Guide Program, and its continued development, focusses on the strengths of our youth members. We are all privileged to be a part of that journey with them. Helping girls and young women to feel empowered, to support them as they set themselves challenges and achieve new goals is a delight I relish daily. Supporting Adult members to do the same is equally valuable and rewarding.

As State Commissioner, I will continue to build on the hard work that has gone before helping Girl Guides Queensland to grow together with strength and unity throughout the State. We will be a cohesive, supportive organisation that gives its members a voice and supports them in their shared goals. My experience in business and risk management assists me to understanding what is needed to make Girl Guides in Queensland visible, state-wide, highlighting our valid place in communities and showing that the skills we offer to our girls are life skills they will always carry with them.

Yours in Guiding,

Kathryn Pearson
State Commissioner
