The Honourable Margaret Keech MP
Minister for Child Safety and Minister for
Women

What was your path to get to
your current position?
I have come from a teaching background and have had experience in many
schools. I have also taught in Papua New Guinea, Malaysia and Japan.
Teaching internationally was an incredible experience for me. Prior to
entering politics I was a lecturer at Queensland University of Technology.
In 2001 I was elected as the Member for Albert so I could make a
difference for the people.
What do you believe are
the attributes of a leader?
I believe that attributes of a leader are being able to stand up for what
you believe in even if your colleagues and peers do not necessarily agree
with you. A leader must be a good listener who is willing to work hard in
the best interests of others.
What would you say to a
girl who wanted to be a politician?
To go for it; it is so rewarding to be able to make a difference to the
people of Queensland.
Has being a woman in
your role presented you with any challenges or obstacles?
Being a woman and a Minister of the Crown has not presented me with any
specific challenges or obstacles. I enjoy being able to run a family and
hold an important role. Women can have it all but only if they have lots
of help and support.
