Boomajarril

Boomajarril "Home of the Little People" is located in Landsborough on the Queensland Sunshine Coast.

History of Boomajarril

Boomajarril is the Landsborough Girl Guide Brownie Cottage which was established in 1971. Girls Guides started in Landsborough in July 1964, meeting in a lot of different places such as shops and Leaders’ yards until land was donated by Clarry and Rene Aldous in 1969 at 1 Coonowrin Street, Landsborough.

After much fundraising, Landsborough Girl Guides purchased the old Woodford Police Station residence which was moved to the land to use as their Brownie Cottage. The Cottage was officially opened on 31 July 1971. It was named “Boomajarril” (meaning “home of the little people”) by the Brownies at the time.

Boomajarril has had its own Committee since 1985.  Prior to this, it was looked after by Landsborough Girl Guides for 13 years. Boomajarril has been self-sufficient in maintaining itself for 40 years.

Landsborough Girl Guides re-opened in October 2007 as a working Girl Guide District.  The District has three Units which meet at Boomajarril.
